Now that we’re in the month of January, the imminent inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump is, unfortunately, upon us. While many of us made plans to be anywhere but Washington D.C that weekend, there appears to be a worthy alternative to standing outside watching our country be turned over to an incompetent and hate-spewing businessman.

Famed restaurant Busboys and Poets is hosting an alternative to the inauguration ball at the hottest venue in the city, the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The Peace Ball: Voices of Hope and Resistance is expected to host 3,000 people.
The event website claims that the $200 event is “a gathering to celebrate the accomplishments and successes of the past 4 years and the vow to continue to be the change we want to see in the world.”
Guests scheduled to attend the event include Angela Davis, Alice Walker, Danny Glover, Van Jones, Ben Jealous, Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza, Melissa Harris Perry and many more.
Artist Esperanza Spalding is set to perform an original song written for the event. Tickets include food, an open bar, live music, dancing and, perhaps best of all, guests will also have access to view all of the museum exhibits.
