We told you last week that Valerie Fairman, 23, who appeared on Season 2 of 16 and Pregnant, passed away on December 21. She was found unresponsive in a bathroom at a friend's house. With her history of drug use, it's been reported that the cause of death is an apparent overdose. However, Fairman's adoptive mother, Janice Fairman, is partly blaming the young mother's death on her decision to appear on the MTV series. Fairman told The Daily Mail that afterward, the notoriety from being on the show went to her head. "She thought she could pretty much do whatever she liked after the show," Janice said. "She was determined to get everything she wanted." Janice went on to say that she wished her daughter "had never been on TV," as soon after, the behavior of Valerie, who was raised in Oxford, Pennsylvania, spiraled out of control. "When we tried to put our foot down, that's when she left home," she said. "I don't think there is anything more we could have done to help her." In case you were wondering, Janice said that Valerie actually applied to be on the show behind her and her husband's back before eventually being picked to be featured on the series. Once it happened, they tried to be supportive. As for Valerie's birth mother, Beth Shepherd, she became acquainted with Valerie after seeing her on the show. She claims that she tried to help Valerie get off drugs by taking her to a methadone clinic a few times. Shepherd had struggled with drug addiction and lost Valerie when she was a child due to a crack cocaine habit, so she could relate to her daughter's battle. Shepherd told The Daily Mail that in the end, "you have to want to get off drugs." "Valerie went through everything I went through," Shepherd said. "I was brought up in the middle of the country and I wanted some excitement so I would run off to Coatesville, which is like the big town around here. It was the same with her. She told me how much she looked up to me and I was an inspiration to her because I had managed to get clean." Valerie was reportedly cremated this week, but there was no funeral service. However, the Fairman's plan to have a memorial celebration for Valerie in January. Valerie's daughter, Nevaeh, is being looked after by Janice. According to The Daily Mail, she said the child's father, Matt Pryce, who was featured on 16 and Pregnant, visits with Nevaeh "occasionally." Image via Twitter
