Despite being honored with the Lady of Soul award at November's Soul Train Awards and putting out a new single with "Beggin & Pleadin," 2016 wasn't the best year for Brandy. Conflict with her record label Chameleon Entertainment and then a one-sided feud aimed at former collaborator Monica ended the iconic singer's year on a sour note. Even Brandy recognizes that she hasn't been herself lately, as the singer posted a note on Instagram sharing her thoughts on what she calls a dark time. In her note, Brandy she talked about thoughts of suicide, feeling remorseful over her treatment of others at times, truly realizing her purpose and how her daughter, Syraii, saved her: https://www.instagram.com/p/BOsHH6kDe4H/?taken-by=4everbrandy&hl=en Brandy has been open in the past about struggles with depression. She talked with NewYork.com back in 2015 about overcoming depression, "doing the work" to get better and how once she did, opportunities opened up for her -- including having the chance to star in Chicago on Broadway. "People would never guess the dark space that I was in about a year ago and how long I was sad and depressed," she said at the time. "It showed in my physical frame and in my eyes. Long story short: I cried out for help and the decision followed to be 'the best version of myself.' I then did the 'work' spiritually, mentally and physically and saw my old life disappear. Chicago presented itself to me and I then stepped into my dream. I’m wide-awake now. Thank you, God." We hope that Brandy continues to find the peace and healing that she's seeking and that soon enough she can get back to the music. They don't call her "The vocal Bible" for nothing! Images via Splash and Instagram
